Così belissima italiano!
A room with a view, indeed!
In delicious agony awaiting decision on my Rome Prize application, I humbly include a few words from my essay:
I dare to attempt “standing upon the shoulder’s of giants” on my journey to become a draftsman in the most noble definition of that title; not to “dance with some Ancient or Renaissance mummy” but rather, to learn myself the antique lessons, techniques, and materials to see where they may lead me-us into the future. I have the unparalleled preparation to seek further the inspirations sought by the historical Prix de Rome recipients. I envision myself in Rome with a rigorous, disciplined, sort of monastic, daily schedule of reading, morning & evening studio drawing with afternoon outings for note taking and drawing from life. Specific Roman interests include The Capitoline Museums and Forum, The Vatican, the earliest Baslilicas, and to search out Gardens. I long for a return to the Uffizi in Florence and to see the Annigoni Museum for the first time. Trips to Byzantine Ravenna and Assisi would be awe-inspiring.
We are all thinking of you and keeping our fingers crossed! Hope soon you will become the Belle of Rome.
